Letters and documents

BX October 11, 1918

Mrs. A. Williams, 24 Holme Street, has received official advice that her son, Private Walter Williams has been admitted to hospital suffering from shell gas. He was formerly employed at the Slingsby Company and left here with the 215th Battalion. He is the fourth of five sons to become casualties in the war. One while serving with the 84th lost an arm in the service and is home; another was gassed in the eyes and face and is in hospital with a crippled leg, another has a wound in the shoulder, and shrapnel in the back and in hip, while the last has the drum of one ear broken. The fifth son left here with the 125th, and thus far is unwounded.
