Her Grandson Died of Wounds – Mrs. Fernival, 245 West St., Learns He Died a Hero’s Death

Mrs. Fernival, 245 West Street, today received word that grandson, Weedon Bellman, had died as a result of wounds, and was buried with honors at Eastbourne, England. Weedon was also a nephew of Mrs. Arthur Clark of the same address.

The despatches telling of the death of Cyclist Weedon Douglas Bellman of the 47th London Divisional Cyclist Battalion (T), Surrey Rifles, state that he met his wounds while acting as one of a selected party of bomb throwers picked to aid the 47th Battalion. They crawled under a German parapet and took unaided, an important position. Owing to a lack of support by infantry, they had to give up their gain, but in recognition of their bravery their names were mentioned in divisional orders. Weedon received wounds during the attack from which he later died. He was buried with military honors.
