Miss M. Nach, 5 Dover Avenue, Tutela, received a postcard today from Pte. William Thomas Beales, formerly a painter at the Brantford Carriage Works, now with the first contingent in France, stating that he had been badly wounded and expected to be invalided to the base hospital.

Miss Peggy Beales has just received official word from Ottawa that her brother, Private William Thomas Beales, has been gassed in action at the front. His name appeared once before in the casualty lists.

Thomas Beales

Thomas Beales, 67, of 159 Fulton Street, died Wednesday at the Clarion Nursing Home in Hamilton. Born in Woolwich, England, he was a resident of Canada for 57 years. He resided in Toronto before coming to Brantford 24 years ago. Mr. Beales was a veteran of the First World War, enlisting in the Brant Dragoons and left Canada with the first contingent in 1914, with overseas service. He was a member of Gore Lodge, IOOF. Surviving besides his wife, the former Margaret Nock, are one son, Norman, of Burlington; one daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Pearl) Vansickle; two brothers, George Beales and Ernest Craig, both of Brantford; five grandchildren. Mr. Beales is at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Saturday for service in the chapel at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Rev. F.A. Cook will officiate.
