William Taylor

A life of 52 years, of which 17 had been given to the service of his country, closed this morning in the death of William George Taylor, who was best known among his comrades as “Sergeant Shoemaker.”  His death occurred at his home, 29 Durham Street.  Sergeant Taylor was born in Ireland.  He served in India as a member of the Royal Garrison Artillery, and fought there in several “Hill” uprisings, his service extending over a period of nine years.  About 15 years ago he came to Canada.  When the war broke out he enlisted in Brantford with the 125th Battalion and again fought in the Empire army.  About two years ago he was invalided home, suffering from rheumatism, and for a length of time he was drawing disability pension.  The late Sergeant Taylor is survived by a sorrowing wife.  The funeral will be held at 2.30 on Monday.
