Trophy Arrived

The cup won by Pte. Billy William of this city in the Toronto boxing tourney last fall has arrived in the city and is held by his brother, Bandsman Albert Williams.  Pte. W. Williams is in Bramshott camp with the 42nd battery.  Pte. Freddie Williams, another brother, lightweight Champion of Canada, is in Egypt where he recently won the gold cup for his class in the army boxing tourney.

William Henry Williams

William Henry Williams, 70 of 19 Mintern Avenue, died Wednesday in St. Petersburg, Florida.  He was born in Chester, England, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Albert Williams, and had been a resident of Brantford since coming to Canada in 1909.  Mr. Williams was employed as caretaker at the post office for 20 years, retiring in 1960.  During the First World War, Mr. Williams served with the 40th Battery and in the Second World War was quartermaster at No. 20 Basic Training Centre in Brantford.  He was a member of Branch 90, Royal Canadian Legion, the Brant Artillery Association, Ozias Masonic Lodge, and a life member of the 56th Regiment sergeants’ mess.  Surviving are his wife, the former Margaret Brown, two sons, George, of Brantford, William of Flint, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Marjorie) Noakes, of Brantford; five grandchildren.  Mr. Williams will be at the McCleister Funeral Home from noon Saturday until Monday, for service at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery with Capt. Harding Beckett of the Salvation Army.
