Cupid has Been Busy at Paris – Weddings of Three Paris Men Now in Active Service Battalions
PARIS August 16 – Two weddings of interest to Parisians were solemnized by Rev. Mr. Nicholson, Paris, at Niagara-on-the-Lake, Saturday afternoon, when Miss Grace Myers, daughter of the late William Myers, became the bride of Pte. W.A. Richardson, Paris. The bride was gowned in white voile with lace and satin trimmings and large white hat. The groom’s gift to his bride was a handsome locket and chain. After a short trip the groom returned to join his battalion of the overseas forces, leaving his bride in Paris, where she will reside until his return from the front.
The contracting Parties of the second wedding were Pte. Albert J. Baker of the same battalion, and Miss Flora E. Hutchings, daughter of Mr. Edward Hutchings, Paris. Mrs. Baker will also reside with her father here until her husband’s return.
A quiet wedding took place Monday, August 9, at the Calvary Baptist church parsonage, Brantford, of Pte. Roy A. Pearce, of the 76th Battalion overseas forces, son of Mrs. Frank Cove and Miss Blanche Mayot, youngest daughter of the late Mrs. Mayot. Rev. W.B. Bowyer Performed the ceremony. Mrs. Pearce will reside with her husband’s mother on Dumfries Street until her husband’s return.

BAKER, Albert James – At the Brantford General Hospital, Wednesday, March 29, 1978, in his 84th year, Albert James Baker; beloved husband of Florence (Hutching) Baker; dear father of Mrs. Bert (Dolly) Medhurst, Islington, and Ted, Brantford; loved grandfather of Mrs. Anne Hipwell, Rev. Bob Baker and Bill Baker; also survived by two brothers and five sisters in England, and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Baker was a cabinet maker in the Brantford area for many years, was a member of Queensway Baptist Church and served overseas in World War 1 with the 76th Battalion. Visitation at the McCleister Funeral Home, Ltd., 30 Brant Avenue, from Wednesday evening. Funeral service and committal service in the chapel, Friday at 1.30 p.m. Interment in Farringdon Burial Ground, Rev. Stewart Liddell of Queensway Baptist Church officiating.
