BX December 4, 1956

Alfred Mattice

Alfred Mattice, 14 Robertson Avenue, died Monday in the Brantford General Hospital in his 72nd year.  He was born in Windham Centre and lived in Brantford for 62 years.  He was employed by Gibson Fuels Limited for 30 years and, after his retirement, was employed by the Board of Education as a school crossing watchman.  Mr. Mattice was a veteran of the First World War, having enlisted with the 36th Battalion and served overseas from 1914 to 1918.  He was member of the Canadian Legion, Brantford branch.  Surviving besides his widow the former Gladys Mealing, is one son, Donald, Toronto.  Mr. Mattice is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Thursday for service in the chapel at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot, in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Alfred Mattice

The funeral of Alfred Mattice was conducted Thursday afternoon at the Hill and Robinson Chapel with the Rev. Cyril Squires, First Baptist Church, officiating.  He was assisted by the Rev. A.J. Crick, Bethel Chapel.  There was a large attendance, including a representation of the “Mad Fourth” Battalion.  There was a profusion of flowers.  Pallbearers were Jim Helem, Charles Gamble, Fred Vandecar, Oliver Mealing, George Proper and Fred Howarth.  At the graveside buglers Gary Wilson and Ed Moor sounded “The Last Post.”  Interment was in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
