Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action. This soldier was cleaning his rifle at the mouth of a dug-out, when an enemy shell exploded nearby, a piece of shrapnel cutting his jugular vein and causing his instant death.

Private Amos Beney Officially Reported Killed in Action

Mrs. Elizabeth Beney, Mohawk Street, has been officially notified that her husband, Private Amos Edmund Beney was killed in action on Aug. 19. He enlisted with the 125th Battalion.

BX September 7, 1917

The sad news was received by Mrs. E. Beney, Mohawk Road that her husband, Private Amos Beney had been killed in action on Aug. 19. He was 42 years of age and enlisted with the 125th Battalion. He had been in France since May 6. Prior to enlisting, he worked for Bennett and Bowden, contractors. He leaves a wife, three sons and three daughters, the eldest son being now in England recovering from wounds received at Vimy Ridge April 9, and his mother.
