Returning Veterans

Two more local heroes, who have taken their share in the great Empire struggle, are expected to return to the city in a few days. They are Pte. William Hart, of 231 West Mill Street, who left with a draft from the 38th regiment in September, 1915 and Private Archibald George Moore, of 259 Brock Street who, enlisted in the early days of the war.

A. George Moore

A George Moore of 271 Brock Street died this morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in his 78th year. Mr. Moore was born in Forest Gate, Essex, England, and has resided here since 1911. He was a veteran of the First World War, serving with the 58th Battalion and the 125th Battalion, CEF. He was a member of Branch 90 of the Canadian Legion, Independent Order of Foresters, and Marlborough Street United Church. Surviving besides his widow, the former Grace Lovett, are two daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Ivy) Moore of Windsor and Mrs. Frank (Elsie) Drewitt of Brantford; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother in England. Mr. Moore is resting at the Beckett Funeral Home until Monday for service at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Farringdon Burial Ground.

A. George Moore

Reverend T.R. Waugh of Marlborough Street United Church officiated at the funeral of A. George Moore Monday afternoon at the Beckett Funeral Home. There was a large attendance at the service, including a representation from Branch 90, Canadian Legion. Many floral tributes were placed in Mr. Moore’s memory. Mr. Waugh spoke of Mr. Moore’s Christian character and faithful attendance to his church. Pallbearers were John Drewitt, William Mabbott, Harry Legacy, Thomas Jordan, James Richards and John Ricketts. Interment was in the Farringdon Burial Ground.
