H.G. Watson Dies Sunday

Henry Gordon Watson, 75, of 128 Brant Avenue, died Sunday in Brantford. Mr. Watson was born in Strathroy, son of the late E.P. and Mary Watson and received his education in Paris, Ontario and was employed at the Canadian Bank of Commerce for three years.

He was a prominent textile manufacturer and military man serving in the First World War with the Fort Garry Horse, from 1914-1918. He continued his interest in the militia and served as commanding officer of the Second 10th Dragoons. He attained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel.

He was with the Watson Manufacturing Company from 1919-1929, then went with Newlands and Company Limited of Galt until 1961, when he retired as general manager and director of the company. Mr. Watson was a past president of the Primary Textiles Association, and a past president of the Canadian Woolen and Knit Goods Manufacturers Association.

Mr. Watson was the founder and served as president of the Beaver Service Men’s Club in Galt and was a past president of the Brantford Conservatives Association, a member of Grace Anglican Church in Brantford, Branch 90, Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Hamilton Officers Club.

Surviving is his wife, the former Agnes Martin, one son Harry; one daughter Mary; his step-mother Mrs. E.P. Watson; three brothers, Rupert and John of Brantford, Alexander (Sandy) of Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Flint (Isabel) Garrison of Denver, Col., and Mrs. Donald D. (Patricia) Williamson of Brantford. He was predeceased by two brothers, Major Robert Watson of Hamilton and Kenneth; and one sister Margaret. Mr. Watson is at the Beckett Funeral Home until 1.30 Tuesday for service at Grace Church at 2 p.m. Interment will be in Farringdon Burial grounds
