Circumstances of Casualty: Killed in Action.  About 11 p.m. on the night of August 10th 1918, an enemy aeroplane heavily bombed the horse lines and Driver Cleghorn was instantly killed.

First War Memorial Medal

The First War Memorial medal, granted to the widows of overseas men, has been received by the Soldiers’ Aid Commission for Mrs. J. Cleghorn, wife of Gunner Cleghorn, Superior Street. The medal is a very fine one, having the shape of a cross, and is of drab color, with royal purple ribbon.

Word has just been received that Gunner John Cleghorn, Canadian Field Artillery, had been laid up for four weeks in France, through a nasty wound in the knee. He is getting along fine. His family had no mail in eight weeks until this word came through from the soldier himself. He has had two and a half years experience in France, and this is his first wound. His many friends wish him a speedy recovery.

A letter has just been received from Gunner John Cleghorn of the 42nd Battery, now on the firing line in France, thanking Miss Grace Raynor and the willing workers of the Balfour Street Presbyterian Church for their kindness shown him in sending a good Christmas box of good things, which was very much appreciated, being  in excellent condition when received. It was nice to know that the boys away were not forgotten.
