BX June 21, 1916

Pte. Joseph Blaney, Paris, Wounded – Card Received From Him in Hospital was First Intimation

PARIS, June 21. – Minnie Blaney of this town has received a card from her brother, Private Joseph Blaney, stating that he had been wounded in the right leg, and taken to Ward A.6, No. 4 General Hospital, Army Post Office S18. He was a member of the 4th Battalion, under Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Alexander Colquhoun, and the first intimation received that he was wounded was through the card received from the hospital. It was signed E.M. Cooper, Sister.

BX August 3, 1953

PARIS – Joseph Blaney of R4 Acton, died at his residence, Saturday, following a heart attack.  Born in Tyrone, Ireland, he was formerly employed by Dominion Rubber Co. Ltd., in Kitchener.  Before moving to Acton three years ago he lived in Kitchener and Paris.  A veteran of both the First and Second World Wars, he was a member of the Army and Navy War Veterans’ Association.  Surviving are two sons, Joseph and Fred, both of Kitchener; three daughters, Mrs. G. (Dorothy) Otterbein and Mrs. C. (Agnes) Hilker, both of Kitchener and Mrs. Ross (Jean) Houghton of Toronto; a brother, William Blaney of Paris; a sister, Mrs. W. (Minnie) Esler of London, and 14 grandchildren.  His wife, the former Jennie Rae predeceased him in September of last year.  Mr. Blaney is resting at the Bruce R. Smith Funeral Home, Grand River and Banfield Streets, where service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in Paris Cemetery.
