Cause and Place of Death: Died of Wounds. Sapper Wilson was asleep in a billet in the neighborhood of Wancourt when a bomb dropped from an enemy aircraft bursting within five yards of the billet, severely wounded this soldier by flying fragments. Stretcher bearers were in attendance within a few minutes, and his wounds were dressed, and he was evacuated, but succumbed to his wounds on the 31st August, 1918 at No. 42 Casualty Clearing Station.
