BX August 27, 1917

Mrs. L. Edwards, 157 Sheridan Street, received a telegram on Saturday that her husband, Private Louis Edwards had been wounded in the hand and face. He left here with the 84th Battalion.

BX August 29, 1917

The casualty lists include the following as wounded and gassed. Pte. Edward Christie of Brantford and Corporal Elmer James Clinch of Ohsweken wounded, Privates William Hickson, 63 Park Avenue, Brantford; Louis Ernest Edwards, 157 Sheridan Street, Brantford; Harry Ewing Duke and Thomas Warren Ireland, Brantford, Privates, Simon Wilson and Arthur Ebenezer Noah of Ohsweken. 

BX September 15, 1917

Mrs. Edwards, 157 Sheridan Street, received word from Ottawa this morning that her husband Private Louis Edwards had been admitted to No. 6 Clearing Station on September 6th suffering from gas shell wound. Pte. Edwards was reported slightly wounded three weeks ago but had returned to duty.

Louis Ernest Edwards

Louis E. Edwards, formerly of 74 Victoria Street, died Saturday in the Brant Sanatorium in his 75th year.  He was born in Ingersoll, the son of the late James and Agnes Edwards, and was a resident of Brantford for 45 years.  He was a former employee of the old Brantford Carriage Works, now Brantford Coach and Body Limited, retiring in 1951.  A veteran of the First World War, he enlisted in Niagara Falls with the 84th Battalion and served overseas with the 75th Battalion.  He was a member of the Paris branch of the Canadian Legion. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Joseph (Winona) Stevens of Brantford, Mrs. Edward (Bernice) Martin of Galt, one son, Leroy of Vancouver, three sisters, Mrs. William (Winnifred) Cole of Brantford, Mrs. Agnes Staples, Mrs. Ada Henderson, both of Ingersoll; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  His wife, the former Florence Weller, predeceased him in 1951.  Mr. Edwards is resting at the Hill and Robinson Funeral Home until Tuesday for service in the chapel at 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Louis Ernest Edwards

The funeral of Louis Edwards was conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Hill and Robinson Chapel. Rev. H.A. Smith, padre of the Canadian Legion officiated.  Relatives from Brantford and out of town points attended, and there was a representation of Branch 29, Paris Canadian Legion.  Pallbearers were Bill Davis, Bert Rand, Jack Keene, Ted Thurman, Charles Morris, all from the Paris Legion and William Beackock.  Interment was in the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.
