Lieutenant Ashton Cockshutt and Pte. Hamilton Hit – Former a son of W.F. Cockshutt, M.P., Enlisted at Calgary – Pte. Hamilton, a Brother of Corp. Hamilton, Who Was Last Week Reported Wounded

Mrs. Robert Hamilton, who resides at 54 Peel Street, received an official telegram from the adjutant-general at Ottawa this morning, announcing that her son, Private Robert Hamilton, who enlisted here with the first contingent of Dufferin Rifles, had received a gunshot wound in the head in the fighting on May 27. No further particulars were given, and it is not known here whether the wounds are of a very serious nature or not.

Private Robert Hamilton is well known in Brantford having been connected for the past three years with the Dufferin Rifles. He is unmarried, and at the time of his enlistment, boarded at 171 Terrace Hill Street. By trade Private Hamilton is a painter.
On Tuesday of last week Private Hamilton’s brother, Corporal W.W. Hamilton, who enlisted with the Duffs, having previously been a sergeant of the 38th was reported wounded.

HAMILTON, Robert – After a lengthy illness, in his 86th year, on Thursday, September 1, 1977, Robert Hamilton, beloved husband of Margaret Hamilton; dear father of Mrs. Douglas (Margaret) McKibbon, R3 Mount Hope and Mrs. A.E. (Dorothea) Baker, Brantford; brother of Mrs. Robert (Betty) Carter, Brantford; loved grandfather of Captain the Reverend Robert Baker, Petawawa; William Baker, Dunnville and Scott McKibbon, Mount Hope.  Mr. Hamilton was an original member of the “Mad 4th Battalion”; member of Central Presbyterian Church and retired employee of Robbins and Myers Limited.  Visitation at the McCleister funeral Home Ltd., 30 Brant Avenue, from Saturday evening.  Funeral service and committal in the chapel, Monday at 2 p.m. Interment in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Captain the Reverend Robert Baker will officiate.
