Veterans Returned Home

Private Robert William Horsnell resides on Alfred Street, Pte. Roderick Eastman, who lives at 157 Murray Street, was a member of the 4th C.M.R. for over a year and he has received his discharge papers and is once more with his family. Pte. Horsnell was wounded in the stomach.

Roderick Eastman

The death of Roderick Eastman, 507 Colborne Street, occurred Wednesday morning at the Brantford General Hospital in his 75th year.  Mr. Eastman was a veteran of the Great War, having served overseas for two years with the 4th C.M.R.’ of Hamilton.  His wife predeceased him 18 years ago.  The funeral will be conducted Saturday from Reid and Brown’s funeral Chapel to Mount Hope Cemetery, where interment will be made in the Soldiers’ Plot.  Left to mourn the loss of Mr. Eastman are a son, William, Dundas, and four daughters, Mrs. Gawthorne, Hamilton; Mrs. White, Kitchener and Mrs. Oswald and Mrs. Windle, both of Brantford.

The funeral of Roderick Eastman was held Saturday afternoon from the Reid and Brown Funeral Home to the Soldiers’ Plot in Mount Hope Cemetery.  Deceased had been a resident of Brantford all his life and many of his neighbors and old friends attended the last rites.  Rev. E.C. McCullagh was in charge and during the service a vocal solo, “In the Garden,” was sweetly sung by Mrs. W. Laing.  The “Last Post” was sounded at the graveside.  The pallbearers were Messrs. A. Beal, J. Sullivan, J. Gawthorne, T. Eastman, R. White and N. Windle.
