First Place for Brantford Man – Private Cheney Wins Two Walking Races at Soldiers Camp in Toronto

It is not a case of all work and no play at the soldiers’ training camp in Toronto.  On the contrary, a good portion of the time is given over to all kinds of athletic events, an athletic association having been formed under whose auspices contests are held.  In these the Brantford members of the camp are figuring prominently.  Private Stanley James William Cheney, whose picture is published herewith, has recently captured first place in two walking races, open to all members of the camp.

Writing of Private Cheney’s achievement, Private Charles T. Messick, president of the Dufferin Rifles branch of the athletic association says:

We naturally feel proud of him and would like the citizens of Brantford to know that their boys are not content with anything less than first place among the camp athletics.  We are just getting our athletic club into working order.  In the future we hope to pull in more prizes.
