William T. Acland Called by Death
The death occurred Thursday afternoon at his residence, 132 Mintern Avenue, of William Thomas Acland, husband of Effie L. Burtch, in his seventy-sixth year. Mr. Acland was born in London, England, and came to Canada in 1886. For the past sixty years, he had been a resident of Brantford and district. Until his retirement fifteen years ago, Mr. Acland was an employee of Waterous Limited.
All his life, Mr. Acland had taken an active interest in music. For many years he was a member of the Dufferin Rifles Band. During the First Great War he was Bandmaster of the 75th Battalion Band of Toronto, and on his return from overseas in 1919, helped to organize the Great War Veterans’ Association Band, which was a forerunner of the Canadian Legion Band. For a number of years, Mr. Acland was Bandmaster of the Canadian Legion Band, and for the past twenty years had been Choirmaster of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Left to mourn his loss, besides his widow, are three daughters, Miss Eva Acland, at home, Mrs. James Butler (Pear), Brantford, and Mrs. Wilfred Blancher (Rhea), Toronto, and one son, William D. Acland, Brantford. A son, Clarke Burtch Acland, passed away in 1918. Mr. Acland is resting tat Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home, where the service will be conducted Saturday afternoon. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The funeral service for William Thomas Acland, husband of Effie L. Burtch, 132 Mintern Avenue, was conducted at Thorpe Brothers’ Funeral Home on Saturday afternoon. Rev. L.H. Hylton, Minister of Immanuel Baptist Church, was in charge of the services. There was a large attendance of relatives and friends. The pallbearers were Norman Ford, reg. Fowler, George Marsden, Sidney Priest, William Welsh, and Charles Waghorn. Interment was in Mount Hope Cemetery.
